Pictorial patterns unfold on paper using the nature of water. The three-dimensional space created by folding the two-dimensional world of colour into a three-dimensional object. And a single place created by the meeting of them. The overall sense and image that Koga Tobu seeks is segmented into the elements of colour and form. And his unique form or formative language, which integrates these elements, is manifested in that place. It is important to note that the form is not logically constructed from the setting of the subject or context of the work, but has been sensitively extracted and sharpened through years of trial and error in his creative works. The work is therefore able to resonate his sense of the world in which he lives directly with that of the viewers, and is able to elicit diverse and lively impressions and imaginations rather than converging on a particular interpretation.
