Urasaki Mikio Exhibition ” Windows are opened and closed ”

One of exhibition works. Oi.

The paintings of Mikio Urasaki are intended to tell us a certain feeling. If one ought to describe this feeling in a few words, it would then be ‘a certain scene appears and disappears abruptly in our everyday life’. In ordinary casual moments, this scene opens like a 'window' as if to stop the artist saying 'Hey...'. But even if we strain our eyes to see beyond that window, it closes in a short moment. For Urasaki, the question of why such feelings occur and what they mean overlaps with the question of ‘whether it is possible to see an actual existence itself’, a question that has been the pathway of exploration for his pictorial expression. The scene that attracts him may be the moment when 'existence itself' breaks through the shell of the 'way of seeing things' that we have unwittingly acquired and comes closer to us.
