From exhibition works, " thought 160203 " pen drawing on paper, copper, graphite 22x32.5cm

This is Choi Haejung a Korean artist’s first solo exhibition in Japan. She pursues abstract expression through the use of fine and gentle pen strokes.
Initially Choi’s interest in pen drawing began with a fascination with the figurative effects of unique materials such as mixed powdered materials like metal with painting solutions, but her focus gradually shifted to expressing other invisible things through the process of drawing a single line.
However one of her important themes is ‘time’. The lack of fixed ends to the line, the accumulation of lines as information and the regressive structure of the end of the line to the start of the line are all part of her consistent interest in time that runs through her work.
This exhibition will include a selection of Choi’s early and current abstract pen drawings as well as an artist’s book containing her lyrical and narrative expressions.
