Tokyo School of Arts = TSA was embodied by an original educational philosophy of an artists Saito Ghiju in his last years. Saito Ghiju had always been a pioneer in the field of abstract arts from early Showa period (1926~) to 2001 the year he passed away. “The Present Time Expressed” is an annual group exhibition hold by a group of interested graduates of TSA.
The subtitle “Zeroist” is named after the past work of Saito that was presented in 1950. The exhibition pays an homage to their honored teacher, and it means that they always remember to return to their zero point of expression in order to start on a journey again and again.
“Chilled Art” is this year’s theme. Informations including uneasy incidents, unreasonable authorities and what cause unresting minds of us are everywhere around us. This brings to us the feeling of fear, distrust and anger. Yet let us remember that art expressions are what can calm our minds and enable us to observe the world with clearer eyes.
