Try to visualize your favorite clothes in your closet: the one-piece you put on for your first date, the sweater you received by your grandmother, the dress you have been longing for since when you were a child…Have you ever noticed how those clothes, tailored by a stranger’s hands, are now telling your story and helping you to build your relations with the other people? This exhibition will take you to distance yourself from the limits imposed by such concepts as “trend” and “consumption” created by the design and fashion industry. It will also lead you to include the way you dress in the view of your personal and public relations and make you reconsider your everyday act of “wearing clothes”. In June, Gunma Prefecture had the honor to see the Tomioka Silk Mill and the Related Silk Industrial Heritage being inscribed to the World Heritage List. Gunma Prefecture once prospered thanks to silk production and exportation and it is right from this place that we would like to suggest you to rethink the meaning and the purpose of wearing clothes.
