Kenji Yokoya has been searching for spatial and formative art using corrugated cardboard consistently as his media. His techniques consist of cutting out 5mm (approx.) thick slices from the cardboard and re-connect them in order to bring the wave-form section inside out, and this creates the surface which inside structure was transformed into outside. The square poles are made by the new combinations and these structures change their impressions in many ways depending on from which angle we look at the subjects.

In these uncountable repetitions of work- which is simple and also which demands an extreme precision the artists’ spiritual nature is shown. Yokoya’s occupation is a cultivation of lilies, and his impulse to work on this art series was from the idea that the corrugated cardboard of the lilies’ packing materials has once been a plant. He solemnly works very hard without stint on such expressionless subject as corrugated cardboard, yet his art seems to tell us quietly that we are losing the sight by consuming and using what are given from nature without hesitation.

Since his exhibition in 2015, he had succeeded in creating more striking visual effects by using black painting. The forms that are hanged in the mid air slowly start to turn around by the slight winds influenced by the viewers, and there movements interfere with each other and create shadows which invite us into the meditative moments.
