At a time when era and society are at a big turning point, the theme of Yunoka Nishi’s work is freedom and liberation from the past.
‘In this time of transition, it is better to play with your true feelings than to keep them bottled up. Expose your weaknesses, let go of the past, and seek the discomfort that will help you move forward.’
To be free from the shackles of the past, one has to come out and face the truth. The touch of this truth is actually what Nishi tries to express in her sculptures. It can be uncomfortable and painful at times but at the same time it is a breakthrough for the ideal of the future.
