You are warmly invited to 'Now/Here', a solo exhibition by Itsuha Seino to be held at studio J in September. Seino is currently doing a master's degree in Japanese painting (nihonga) at Kyoto City University of Arts. Her work mainly comprises botanical motifs and begins with observational field sketches. From these multiple drawings, Seino creates new compositions back in the studio. The work to be displayed consists of sketches and nihonga painted onto panels.

This is Seino's first solo show and, despite being only 20 years old, her work possesses a highly accomplished sense of composition and beautiful colour usage. We look forward to seeing how her work continues to develop into the future.

My work always begins with sketches. I go outside, sit down on the ground and simply draw what's in front of me. Then I repeat the process. In this way, my work records the light, sounds and smells of each particular place and time.
