It is my pleasure to invite you to 'Wind Fossil', a solo exhibition of new paintings by mariane, opening on 1st June, 2013. This follows upon the success of her previous solo exhibition held at studio J in December 2011.

mariane's work is characterised by extraordinarily detailed paintings of imaginary life-forms. These creatures do not correspond to anything which currently exists, rather they are her unique creations. It is impossible to tell where they originate from. Have they fallen from the heavens or do they secretly inhabit the deep recesses of the oceans? These motifs, delicately painted onto the surface of Japanese paper, possess a remarkable intensity and this exhibition will present a number of new pieces.

Will yesterday's wind allow today's to enter?
Remaining air around me forms fossils.
Thinking about where these come from,
We can imagine the wind we cause as we pass by.
Your winds blow to me.
