EMON Photo Gallery welcomes back Naoki Fujioka after 6 years, with this solo exhibition of his series entitled 「flora」. Professionally active in the advertisement photography industry, Fujioka has dedicated his private time to capturing plant life. In this series he skillfully juxtaposes a gentle appreciation of fleeting beauty with a portrayal of the undeniable strength found in nature. In this way Fujioka expresses a longing for that which can simply be ‘as it is’, as he ponders the mechanism behind the cathartic quality of flowers. EMON Photo Gallery extends a warm invitation to peruse Naoki Fujioka’s gentle confrontation of the universe of nature, and the nature of that which is universal. 「Flora」
The form of a plant comes to us via a series of steps that can never be retaken nor revised. Buffeted by wind, pelted with rain, scorched by sun, the shape and color found there is only one, and cannot be recreated. As much as I am able, I would like to clearly express this individuality in photo. As I attempt to do so, various insects drop by. This is freedom.
