Coutesy of the artist and studio J

We, studio J, are going to hold “Dystopia (dreaming of a new galaxy)” by an artist, Johan Peter (Jp) Hol, from January to February 2012.
This is his fourth solo exhibition at studio J. His past works were “Secret Garden” in 2005, “HARDSHIP” in 2007, and “Gay Squirrel & The Tale/Tail & The Cat On The Moon” in 2009. At this exhibition, he has combined all of these three themes together.
The focal point of this exhibition is on the importance of neither people with high power nor heroes, but the existence of community members, employees, and forgotten ones. He defines the theme “Dystopia” as an imaginary place where people lead dehumanized and often fearful lives, and anti-utopia. He questions if we can escape from dream of dystopia, nightmare in other words, by our own power.
Jp Hol uses materials such as paper, cardboards, clay, and felt that childlike at first glance. These materials with their rough characters bring out charm, the elements of his work. At the exhibition, 3D composition in paper, mobiles, 17 porcelain plates, and booklet are going to be exhibited.

[Biography]
Jp Hol was born in 1964 and grew up in Holland. He graduated with Mass Media from a university in Utrecht, Holland in 1990. He pursued Design degree at Academia di Bell Arti di Brera in Milan, Italy, and graduated in 1999. Currently, he is located between Milan and London, and he has solo and group exhibitions at various locations in Europe and Japan.
