《Four Lines》2012
Painted steel

ANDO GALLERY is pleased to announce an exhibition of a new installation work by Ken Nakazawa.

Nakazawa was born in Tokyo in 1970, graduated from Department of Oil Painting and completed the Postgraduate Course at Tama Art University in 1994. He participated in the group exhibition "MOT Annual 1999: Modest Radicalism" at Museum of Contemporary Art, Tokyo, in 1999, also joined "YOKOHAMA 2001: International Triennale of Contemporary Art" at Pacifico Yokohama, in 2001. Nakazawa has been receiving high commendation as an installation artist, who composes installation works using thin and wispy materials such as wires and nylon filaments, integrating them into the spaces of respective venues.

This exhibition marks the first time in three years in which Nakazawa will present a new installation. This new installation is composed of four rows of wire rods projecting outward from one gallery wall. Each row is formed by pairs of rusted wire rods extending horizontally, held aloft and welded at intervals to white vertical support rods standing approximately 130cm tall, which together form self-standing units. The white color of the vertical columns allows them to blend with the white walls of the venue, giving the appearance that the rusted horizontal rods are floating within the space.

The rhythms arising from the repetition of the slightly distorted shapes of each line produces a tranquil and visionary state in concert with the whole of space. Interpretation of this abstraction is left to the viewer; every angle may elicit a different image, and each viewer may find their own meaning.
