Aya Tanimura (1983-) mainly works on woodcarving and pencil drawing. The works that peeled bare twigs were carved into braids were created imaginary assimilate to one's hands once been touched. In due time, the twigs get darkish and turn itself color from human's skin color into human's hair color. This works are created to combine the element of 'wood' as material, 'braid' as motif, the artist herself who come in contact with and the passage of time for each of those. In the drawings that were drawn on Japanese papers or Japanese thin papers, the tied up hairs look like multiplying and swelling. The hairs and the braids appeared in her works depict her notion, feeling and sense of time. The things happen in 'a moment' and the things happen by 'time passage' were taken in sensitively, and reflected into her works. Even though, it was unpredictable and illusionary aspect that the change of color of the twig that happened by time passing and the drawings that was created with instinct of a moment, she consider that is a necessary element of her works. * The text was provided by Yuka Sasahara Gallery.
