Umeda creates his original implements by remodelling the daily tools or home electric appliances. Sounds, light or some moves those implements sometimes emit bring viewers into his world. His activity has a wide variety from space installation to live performance. He had a solo show “Mon (Gate)” at ARCUS in Ibaraki in 2008 and has taken part in various group exhibitions, i.e. “Criterium 73” (Contemporary Art Center, ATM, Mito, 2008) or “Extended Senses” (NTT Inter Communication Center, 2008), not only domestic also many international exhibitions and music festivals. At ART@Agnes 2009, which was the art fair held in January this year, Umeda succeeded to change a stereotyped hotel room by minimum quantity of equipments. His works are always created from his great understanding of the exhibition space. He manducates the character of the space, has communication with the environment and makes his work extemporaneously. His improvisatory works fill the space as if the room as itself is breathing and appeal to viewers’ deep instincts. This is so called “Correspondances” as Baudelaire said. The artist will show a number of “incidents” that are happening in between order and disorder. The things which are existed in the daily life, the things which can be seen. By the implements that have eliminated even personal feeling or thought of the artist himself, viewers will be able to experience closely the world we all co-existed in and extraordinary phenomenon in front of their eyes. The artist will have a performance show on the opening day, 25th April from 19.00. * The text was provided by Ota Fine Arts.
