Tim Barber (b. Feb 5th, 1979) grew up in Amherst Massachusetts, lived for a few years in the mountains of Northern Vermont, studied photography in Vancouver B.C. and now lives in New York City. Known equally for his curatorial practice as he is a photographer, Barber is the former photo editor of Vice Magazine, and the mind behind the hugely influential on-line gallery tinyvices.com. Barber has established himself as the authority on up-and-coming photographic talent and as a true arbiter of taste in the young, global artist community. His legendary and massive tinyvices group shows - featuring hundreds of photographers and artists - have been exhibited around the world, and his publishing ventures, including the prolific imprint TV Books and a curated series of five artists monographs, published by the Aperture Foundation, have garnered critical acclaim. This will be the second Tim Barber solo show held at YUKA TSURUNO (formerly called YUKA CONTEMPORARY). In this exhibition, Barber will show a series of new, previously unreleased works in both black & white and color. Known for elegantly composed observations that locate complex beauty in the seemingly mundane, from portraits to landscapes to narrative scenes, Barber approaches all of his subject matter with a palpable delicacy. Expanding on amateur aesthetics, Barber's images can feel both spontaneous and carefully composed. The line between autobiography and fiction is as ethereal as the overall tone of the work. In the case of Barber’s photography, ambiguity is seductive, and the lure of fantasy eclipses the security of literality. With his new series "Welcome To Earth" Barber further explores and defines his unique, poetic approach to photography.

On Saturday, September 24, there will be a opening reception with the artist in attendance. For this occasion, the gallery has published a limited edition exhibition catalog, which will be available for signing upon purchase.
