ANDO GALLERY is pleased to announce "Old World", an exhibition of new artworks by Ricarda Roggan. Roggan was born in Dresden, former East Germany, in 1972. Studied photography at and received a master's degree from Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst Leipzig in 2004. She also studied at the Royal College of Art in London in 2003. In the exhibition "Zwischen Wirklichkeit und Bild: Positionen deutscher Fotografie der Gegenwart" at The National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo in 2005, Roggan received attentions as the youngest artist.

In her second exhibition at ANDO GALLERY, the artist presents seven new artworks each from the two new series titled "Ausgänge" and "Reset". In addition, three latest artworks from the series "Sedimente" will also be shown for the first time in Japan. All three series arose at Cyprus, an island in the Mediterranean Sea, well known for its archaeological finds. The series "Ausgänge" are showing the caves formed naturally and artificially by humans in the past. The series "Reset" represents the car racing game machines that are long out of use, covered with dust and grime. And the series "Sedimente" captures the sites, which seem to be some archaeological excavations. Every depicted thing and place has already finished its role and has been totally discarded.

Although the subjects for these series are different from each other, they all embrace the questions of past seen from the present time, which are united through the artist's gaze and interest in the vestiges of human activity and time.
