We are pleased to announce Laurel Roth’s first solo exhibition in Japan from 12 of July 2011. Laurel Roth has started her career as a professional artist in 2004 and successfully presented her multi media art piece in US, Europe and East Asia .

“I use art as a medium to examine biological ramifications of human behavior. My work juxtaposes traditional craft and artisanal techniques with non-traditional materials to examine mankind’s drive to modify itself as well as its environment.” (http://loloro.com/home.html)

One of Roth’s reputed series of pieces“Man’s Best Friend” are hand carved sculptures of industrial acrylic in forms of pet’s skulls such as pug and Persian cat. The surface of these pieces are persistently hand polished and shine just as if they were made out of natural crystal. Considering the pet as an artificial breed crated to be a part of human’s life, Roth treats it as a new cultural artifact.

During the process of civilization, people forgot a feeling of awe to the world, and contrarily they had been trying to control it. And now when we are just having the moments of every kind of deterioration, collapsing infrastructures and losing peaceful minds, the beauty and sorrow of “Supernatural” are just humorously found in the Roth’s piece that also reflects the human’s creative impulse, the fundamental energy of the evolution.

In addition to “Man’s Best Friend”, there are going to be more of Roth’s representative pieces at the show as well as a huge tapestry work co-produced with Andy Diaz hope.
