"Arcadia (mist)" (2010); gelatin silver print You will have your eyes glued to the deep blue and feel as if you strayed into another world filled with silence and transparency once you see the photo works of Haruka Hirose. The parallel universe is somehow a nostalgic world rather than the world you have never seen. You may feel like looking into your own past memories through a thin film, followed by nostalgia. Although the sceneries are something close to us such as the place in a small wood, rain drops trapped in a spider web and a classroom with a piano, those become symbols through a lens called “Haruka Hirose.” Her works are not stage settings, but the symbolized sceneries of our everyday lives. The atmosphere of her picture works is like a painting. Perhaps, the roots of these might be because she originally majored in painting. Though there is no human figure in her works, we feel a sign of life there, and we feel as if we were there. Her works have such liveliness. In this exhibition, we are going to further expand the previous exhibition’s “Arcadia” series and announce the new works titled as “Arcadia-reverb.” Haruka Hirose * The text provided by Gallery Terra Tokyo.
