Sakura FUKUSHIMA (b. 1987, Kumamoto) received a BA in painting from the Musashino University in 2010 and is presently attending Painting Course of Master’s Degree Program at Musashino Art University.

Fukushima’s art works show a melancholy aspect with using motifs and plain sights around us. Her works glimpse scene of each moment or its icon memory that we all believed they would be last forever in childhood. Since 2009, Fukushima embroiders on her works. Embroidering makes symbolic figures more decided and entrenched. These figures become hypostatized immortal by stitching and this process is how she remembers and records her sentiment.

I want to remember anything variable. I want to own things I like.
In the space I create with acrylic paint,
I plough in the variable and/or given things as entities by stitching.
Then mental images in my mind pass through inside of me and when they come out as art works, they’ll be fixed and completed.

-Sakura Fukushima

This exhibition will be composed of new works following the group show “Emerging Artists 2010” (March, 2010) held at Bambinart Gallery.
