Sonoko Ito (b. 1978) graduated Faculty of Education and Human Studies at Akita University. After that, she learned carving and modeling and received master’s degree at University of Tsukuba. While her master years, she started developing sculptures in the motif of apples, specialties of Akita, and Akita itself. These apples with hands or/and legs are named "Pomeri (derived from "pomme", apple in French)". There are many characters like dog-apple family, Hokujins, the God of goat-apple and Koojah, the traveler. These characters live their own town like Miraia town, Holiber town and Pomeri town where Pomeris live. The characters are off-worlders, but somehow, they are familiar and similar to us. That is because they experience emotions as we do. They suffer and pother but feel rejoiced of life.

This exhibition is set in "Dessertia Town". By the inspiration from a lighthouse standing in a port town in Akita, she sculptured "Pomeri cake", the main piece for this exhibition, with the memory of her childhood and culture of Akita. Creams and apple shaped windows make their habitat and there exists a story they appear.

We'll be showing sculptures including a new one, about 1 meter-high, and paintings.
