Opened as an art souvenir shop and gallery café “Fukagawa Ippuku” for sightseeing in Fukagawa in October, 2006. The building is an old renovated dispensing pharmacy shop in the shopping street in Fukawaga Shiryokan-dori. Since its opening, it has become popular as a place where people can take a rest as well as a kind of local hot spot in Fukagawa.

In March 2011, Fukagawa Ippuku was reopened as “Art Labo Fukagawa Ippuku”. With “art”, “café”, and “relaxation” as its focus, it reopened as an experimental community store where people can find a new style of “Ippuku” (rest), and as a place that will be conducive to the people who would like to do so. It provides various kinds of facilities, including a gallery for exhibitions and a rental art space, a café where you can enjoy sweets made by the “atelier Va au Four”, various events such as a live music concerts or talk shows. There is also a bookshelf called the “Bookshelf of Ricochet” where you can buy books recommended by Ricochet which manages the circulation of wholesale of art books and photograph collections. There is a small rental shop gallery “Otana Gashi” that offers artists’ bookshelves made from cryptomeria as rental boxes, as well as a relaxation shop for fortune-telling, and others.

Furthermore, Art Labo Fukagawa Ippuku holds community-based exhibitions and events such as an exhibition of contemporary art, the “Fukagawa Hyakunin Hyakushoku Daruma-ten”, over the New Year, and a second-hand book fair in March every year. Community-based special exhibitions and related events have also been held.
