Maiko Kasai was born in 1983 in Aichi, Japan. After receiving her bachelor's degree in oil painting at Kanazawa College of Art, she attended at the graduate school of Kanazawa College of Art and received an M.A.. She has been showing in solo and group exhibitions since in a college, and in 2008, received the semi-gran prix of Shel Art Award. She has been continuously received several awards including Arts Challenge 2001 (Aichi Arts Center) and The 7th Nishiwaki Thum Hole Award (Okanoyama Museum of Art Nishiwaki).

The intrepidity left canvas's surfaces as blank spaces in composition and the fluid brushstroke creates distinguished uplifting atmosphere of Kasai's works. In the training series that she recently works on, a girl is standing up toward something, often along with a calf, holding scoop shovel, rifle, or hose with streaming water. As Kasai says "I inweaved my own story and situation and information in this world together", the girls in her painting can be a symbol of ourselves facing toward internal struggle or events in a contemporary society. Kasai comments below for statement.

"When I see growth and changes of things that exists in everyday life, I imagine what are their dramatical and socially controlled aspect like. I wanted to pursue the liquidity of continuous discipline and story using a painting brush. I wish this is absolutely slanted on unrealistic and hypothetic."

The exhibition will include a large painting "A discipline for philanthropy" (181.8 x 227.3 cm) and some small paintings including new works. We cordially invite you to enjoy this exhibition. The artist will be present for the opening on Saturday, August 14th.
