Hiroki Yasutomi, born in 1978 in Kagawa, graduated from Kyoto University of Art and Design with master's degree in 2004. His technique and his own expression by pencil have been highly appreciated, and he was awarded while in school.

He shifted from paintbrush to pencil in 2001, then he continues to draw night pieces, plants and water. He desires to record the imagined scenery he was impressed.

This is his 2nd exhibition at our gallery in 4 years, we show around 15 works including 2 large works and line drawings which is his new and minimal practice.

Artist’s statement
The sky gets dark after sunset. People see beyond the darkness to various stories.
Under the mantle of large night, we feel again that we should be just proteges in natural cycle. The night accepts us to melt into the dark.
We can recognize that the bloated ego and self-consciousness in the society of daytime should be just small in the immense night. And I surprise the vitality of flowers and plants at my feet, the richness of the circulating water let me notice transmigration.
The world is not made in the society of daytime with sunshine alone. Change your viewpoint and awareness you'll see the world looks very different.
The clear black of appearance by tightly-stacked pencil strokes on the white paper is like

a scene of absorbing excessive sky white, making sky look slightly darker when the sun goes down.
