Odilon Redon (1908), oil on canvas, 92.7×65.0cm, collection of POLA MUSEUM OF ART

The Pola Museum of Art, which opened in Sengokuhara, Hakone, in September, 2002, boasts a collection of around 9,500 pieces, among which its Western paintings, and in particular its Impressionist paintings, are of a superlative standard. In this exhibition, we present a selection of the very best Impressionist and Ecole de Paris works, such as Claude Monet's Water Lily Pond and Pierre Auguste Renoir's Girls Fishing for Mussels. Including Pablo Picasso's Mother and Child by the Sea, which has not left the Pola Museum of Art since the museum opened, as well as works by Cézanne, Seurat, Redon, Modigliani, Soutine and Léonard Foujita (Fujita Tsuguharu), the first section of the exhibition on Impressionism includes 36 artworks. With another 38 in the Ecole de Paris section, the exhibition features a total of 74 artworks.
