This is Atsushi Suwa’s first solo exhibition which is held at the request of the print atelier, KIDO Press. Before visiting this exhibition, I had an intense impression of its advertising DM, on which there was the image of a woman who is about to take a picture with a camera. Therefore, I expected to encounter his prints such as what I saw in the DM. Nevertheless, at the venue, I found the image which I had seen in the DM was not the photo of a print but of the actual painting entitled “I Can't See Anything Anyway Ver.2”. It is a deniable fact that the copper plate paintings which should be the main exhibits did not strike me throughout the exhibition. This is probably because they gave me a soft image and they were created in an extremely smaller size than the other exhibits, the actual paintings. One out of the three copper plate works shown in this exhibition is displayed together with its original plate and a workbench on which it was created. This work was created based on his self portrait, which contributes to giving us an exceptionally vivid impression of it. (Translated by Nozomi Nakayama)
