Opened in Suita, Osaka in 1997 and then relocated in 2003 to the Arai building (constructed in the Taisho-era) in Kitahama, Osaka’s bond marketing center, and relocates to Shibuya, Tokyo in September of 2010.

MEM introduces a wide range of artists, from emerging to internationally known names, as well as artists who established the art of the Kansai area from the 70s and 80s to the present. It covers a wide range of artistic genres including photographic works, oil paintings and sculptures. MEM also represents the estate of Osamu Shiihara who lead the photographic avant-garde movement in Kansai area in the 1950s. Among the represented artists are Yasumasa Morimura, Tomoko Sawada, Tomoaki Ishihara, Chie Matsui, Yoshio Kitayama, Ken Kitano, Chiyuki Sakagami, Noriko Ymaguchi, Maki Toshima, Yasue Kodama, Hisaji Hara, Natsumi Hayashi, Kimiyo Mishima, and RongRong & inri.
