Being moved emotionally, I feel free.
All I desire is to enter the state of freedom and nothing else matters.
In fact, it may not be true but it is even not important since entering such a state is good in itself. Being emotionally moved is one of the mysteries of this world, a mystery of myself, and an unknown feeling that derives from an indescribable presence. I believe that painting, which can verge on grasping that sense of being emotionally moved itself, is deeply connected to that feeling. And it is why I paint.

2009.03, Matsuda received MFA in Oil Painting from Kyoto City University of Arts. Matsuda’s works were exhibited in Daiwa Press Viewing Room in 2009. In the 2009 exhibition of its graduating students of Kyoto City University of Arts, Matsuda’s oil paintings stood out for their bold compositions with freewheeling brush strokes and unique colors. Matsuda received a Jury Award from Mr. Naoki Sato ( Art Director of ASYL /Assistant Professor at Tama Art College ) at Art Award Tokyo Marunouchi 2009. Matsuda says “inner self becomes untrue as soon as it is translated into words.” His emotional movements or impressions are expressed only in paintings not in languages. During process of his works, Matsuda waits for images that are usually ambiguous. He sometimes spends hours to derive the images from his mind. Upon successful completion of his own expression, he feels released from everything and free.
