Sumi on paper, 2016

Iijima Chie has started her painting work from the drawing filled with physical free movements of liines , and soon began to generate her own structure of painting. When she harmonizes her sense of vision and somatic sensation, something like a living entity is born which easily come and go between abstraction and concreteness. Sometime It grows to be a grand folding screen picture like " Sansui " and sometimes becomes intimate and poetic copperplate print work. Adam Kadmon - the title of this exhibition - is the Jewish religious word which means " the first human being " before the separation between man and women. Exactly Iijima's works make us feel the primitive state of painting in which the undifferentiated state where "watching" and "drawing" is not yet differentiated.
