Gallery Strenger is pleased to announce an exhibition by Natsuko Uno and Kaori Tamura. Entitled “1987”, which refers to their birth year, the exhibit showcases this next generation of Japanese artists, soon to graduate from Tama Art University. Individual two-dimensional works, as well as a collaborative piece, will be featured. “Person to person, man and woman, the past and the future - everything is made of relationships. Whether or not we are conscious of these relationships, or whether these relationship go well, I do not know.” said Natsuko Uno. After exhibiting "RelationshiP" at Gallery Strenger last summer, Uno found herself deeply interested in the "relationship between Self and others". This led her to create works such as "Recollection" where Uno hopes viewers can note their existence by taking an objective view of relationships. She lyrically expresses this moment, comparing it to "when you are tidying the back of a drawer and realize something". Using a rich variety of media including oil paint, tempera and copperplate printing, Uno has splendidly sublimed her inner message through each work. She was born in Tokyo, 1987. Kaori Tamura creates fantastic worlds where transparent feelings overflow the layers within her work. Painted in tempera, Tamura applies colors onto panels, then scratches through the surface, giving the work its poignant imperfection. Tamura describes this process as the act of tearing up a surface to express the inside world demonstratively. Looking at her works bring on a soothing sense of otherworldliness. Quickly gaining popularity, Tamura paints in a classic style, has won the spectator prize at “via Art 2007” and was exhibited during the Hotel Art Fair 2009 in Korea, Soul. Tamura was born in Yokohama, 1987. From our daily life, Uno expresses the "Relationship between Self and others" while Tamura express an inner world by scratching surfaces of painted panels. We hope you enjoy their collaboration in fusing these two different worlds. * The text provided by Gallery Strenger.
