AI KOWADA GALLERY is pleased to present "Homemade Sculptures", an exhibition showcasing some recent works by Taku Hisamura (b.1977).

"Taku Hisamura is one of the artists who take on this very important role of his profession. Despite the serene and the refined appearance that almost give the impression of unfriendliness, his work reveals the unexpected expressiveness that is quite moving when observed with just slightly increased awareness on the side of a viewer."
Fumihiko SUMITOMO,curator.

Hisamura defines the ordinary things in our surroundings that we do not pay special attention to such as "walls, floors, bases of sculptures, furniture and etc." as "virtually nonexistent objects"; and by choosing them as the subject of his works attempts to urge the viewers to see them in the new light.

For this exhibition, Hisamura created an artistic space that mirrors the sensibility of ordinary people living in the contemporary world by using the aesthetic vocabulary developed by the masters of minimal art such as Donald Judd or Richard Serra.

The exhibits includes: the shirts with brand logos which have been altered by the artist's additional embroideries; the chairs and the desks that are made by a simple process of cutting out the form from single material or by combining different material; and the clothes of luxury brands with holes invisibly mended by cloth used for fast fashion outfits. As the show title indicates, these pieces will all be presented as "homemade sculptures" by the artist.
