・Julia Lohmann
Professor, University of Fine Arts, Hamburg

“Our ways of seeing and doing are framed by our culture. My work with natural materials introduces ways of thinking to challenge what we take for granted.”

Julia Lohmann investigates the ethical and material value systems underpinning our relationship with flora and fauna. Julia studied and taught at the RCA. In 2013, as Designer in Residence at the Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A), she established the Department of Seaweed, a trans-disciplinary community exploring the marine plant’s potential as a design material.
Her award-winning work is part of major public and private collections worldwide and has been supported by the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation, the British Council, Jerwood Contemporary Makers, D&AD, the Arts Foundation and the Wellcome Trust.
