A part of exhibition work

Using colored pencil Akiyama Mashito draws very large panoramic views with various themes. Formerly he expressed the beautiful nature of his birthplace, or the homage to masters of Japanese traditional painting, then became to show his criticism for contemporary human society. His most recent theme is the light and darkness of the American history. Most Japanese people in post war era have come under a great influence of American popular culture, and so is Akiyama, especially as a passionate blues music lover. He expresses in his drawing the deep respect for great successors of Amarican roots music, and on the other hand, complicated feeling for the dark side, such as racism and wars. In this exhibition, he himself plays a guitar. His improvised blues will fill the air in the gallery with fantastic resonance of colors and sounds.
