In this Iemoto’s first solo exhibition since 2007, you can view her past achievement and future possibilities.
Message from Akane Teshigahara I had prepared for my first solo exhibition in four years to express my ten-year path since I succeeded as Iemoto in 2001 using plants and containers of my own creation. However, by the unprecedented earthquake which hit the Tohoku and Kanto areas and the nuclear accident in Fukushima, my passion for the exhibition was shattered. Should I postpone the exhibition because there are still so many people suffering? Then, I suddenly thought about bamboo, which endures while bowing flexibly in heavy snow. The former Iemoto Hiroshi was fascinated with the versatile dynamism and vitality of the bamboo and carved his own path of creation. And now, the same as my predecessor, I am trying to find a ray of hope in the tenacious power within bamboo. This is my own prayer for the recovery of the disaster areas with life powerfully reborn, inspired by the bamboo which gracefully rebounds once the snow melts. What we can do is to create ikebana, and offer our thoughts through that. There is no long night that never finds the day. We will move forward, carrying hope in our hands and holding our heads up high.
