Maya Ishii paints the scenes of everyday affairs under the theme of "something left at heart with each day".She executes mainly paintings with a pen and acrylic on panel. The solo exhibition of her paintings One day, one life, one more dream in Bunkamura last November had a good reputation and success.
On the other hand, she also executes a lot of illustrations on paper. Her sensitivity and minute brushwork can be found on not only the paintings but also paperworks. They must give a strong impression to the audience. For example, the illustration for books such as the front cover of Makime Manabu's novel;Shika-otoko aoniyoshi, Kamogawa Holumo are well known.
The original illustrations of Distance between Children and Adults will be exhibited for the first time at this opportunity. Distance between Chirldren and Adults is the serial column by Nobuto Aoki in Tokyo Shimbun(on Tuesday [except the first Tuesday],October 2007-March 2009).
She says ,"I tried to draw the piece of days of teenagers. They are trying to find something in unsettled future and looking for the feeling which they can not put into words."
Nobuto Aoki(Probation Officer, the Ministry of Justice)brings up the questions of the young generation in his columns based on his professional experience. Her illustrations are attached to the columns and send some messages to the readers. Some of teenagers are in despair because they can not have a view for the future. They are ashamed of their weakness and anxiety. Her illustrations play an important part to evoke this kind of emotions the adults had once and forgot a long time ago.
