Sugiura is a promising young photographer who won the Victor Pincheck award at GEISAI MUSEUM#2 and the bronze prize at GEISAI#11 in autumn 2008.
His works printed on large-sized mat sheets have sharpness and delicacy and their distinctive darkness, that cannot be expressed with a glossy C-print, is impressive. “Forests,” his series of pictures of dusky woods, taken immediately before night falls, is filled with a subtle warmth. Looking at the photos capturing aspects of dark, tranquil, cold woods, you might find moist, thick air of the forests surrounding you.
We will present a sharp, sensitive exhibition by realigning the forest series shown at GEISAI MUSEUM#2 and adding large-sized prints to it. It will provide the sharpness of a winter nippy air. Sugiura will visit the gallery to attend the reception party on the first day.
