Hiromart Gallery is pleased to announce the opening of Kakureba (Hideaway), an exhibition of paintings by moki, a Berlin-based German artist. This is her debut solo-show in Japan after taking part in a well-received group show “Tokyo Here We Come!” held in June 2010 with Hiromart Gallery.
The show features the great selection of paintings from her latest project Shelter, which began in 2010. In this project, moki paints on a wooden panel to give the image of marquetry, inlaid work of the different cut pieces of wood. She imitates wood grain and knothole with acrylic color. She says “I collect pictures from various sources that inspire me. They all show different methods to seek shelter.”
[作家プロフィール] moki Born in 1982 in Brilon, Germany. She studied fine art at the University of Fine Arts of Hamburg (HFBK), Germany. During her study, she received a scholarship from Cusanuswerk and the special award from the Dietze foundation at the diploma exhibition, HFBK. Her artworks have been exhibited internationally in various galleries in Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Spain, Switzerland, USA and Japan etc., and she gave a lecture at Iceland Academy of the Arts, Reykjavik, Iceland, invited by the Goethe Institute. She is known as a painter who focuses on acrylic paintings, and additionally she also works as a comic artist. Her artbooks (monographs) are: “Asleep in a foreign place” published in 2006, “How to Disappear“ published in 2010, and “Shelter” will be published from Gingko Press, USA in 2014. Her comic album “Wandering ghost” was published in 2011. Currently she lives and works in Berlin, Germany.
