Opened in 1979 in Shinagawa, Tokyo, dedicated to contemporary art, Hara Museum of Contemporary Art treats a wide range of contemporary culture including art, design, architecture and music. The building, designed by Jin Watanabe in 1938, is also famous as a rare example of early Showa-era architecture. Hara Museum ARC opened in 1988 in Shibukawa, Gunma as an annex to the Hara Museum also for showing their abundant collection of overseas and domestic artworks. Its dark, wooden buildings, designed by Arata Isozaki, stand in beautiful contrast to its natural surroundings, providing an expansive environment for enjoying art.
